Precious time

Elvish : Mom , remember that party at the Dojo I was asking you about ?

Mom : Yes , I think we decided about that already ,didn’t we?

Elvish : I have a proposal. You know I have some money saved, I can pay for my ticket and Tolkien’s Mom : That’s generous . Did she agree?

Tolkien : He said that would be the Christmas gift for me,you know we talked about giving each other meaningful gifts this year. I used all my savings on his birthday lego kit .

Mom : That is settled then. You guys did a great job doing meaningful things for each other.

Elvish : You know I thought of something meaningful for you and dad as well.

Mom : Wow ! So early..can I ask what ?

Elvish : Yes while we are both away at the party, we are giving you a couple of hours to yourself…You know Mom, “TIME” .You say it is the most precious thing in the world.

Priceless memories

Elvish : I want to go to the Parent Night Out party at the Dojo this week.Can I?

Mom : We talked about this..it seems like the tickets are a bit steep for pizza and a movie

Elvish : Mom, don’t put a price on memories ! 

Battle of the ego

Tolkien : I think of all of us Mom has no ego
Elvish : She just has a conscience bigger than her ego..it keeps it in check

Optimistic zoologist

Tolkien: Did you know after the last movie "Finding Nemo" , the number of clown fish in their natural habitat was almost extinct !
Mom : How did you know about that ?
Elvish : We learnt it from a video made by some marine biologists Mom
Mom : Do you know if it is true ?May be the clown fish joined the circus
Elvish : Yes , I know it is true
Mom : You verified the facts?
Elvish : Don't worry mom ! I come from a family of a long line of zoologists
Mom : Really !! How long is that line?
Elvish : Rather short now actually . I am at the beginning of it. 

Satellites got to be men

Elvish : Mom do they name satellites ?
Mom : Don't know may be they do . 
Elvish : I bet they are mostly boys
Mom : Now , I am not sure about that . I bet there could be female names too 
Elvish : I just think they are like men .. You usually say men don't like to ask for directions when they are lost . They are going around in circles not knowing how to park

Mid Life Crisis

After a 14 hr sleep cycle and still reluctantly out of bed ,
Mom :Bud , you have had a 14 hr sleep time , time to be buzzing with energy now
Elvish : Yawwwwn !! mom have you ever felt you want to go back to sleep again after you wake up?
Mom : Yes of course ! But I try to think of all the exciting things I can do during the day and that gets me out of bed
Elvish : Mom, probably works for you ..it is called mid life crisis ,not for me !

Mom !! Time to grow up or imagine that aging stuff 

Sometimes good things end

Mom : You are 10 today! You are not going to be my baby anymore 
Elvish : Yeah ! I am kinda grown up now.
Mom : I wish you were my baby a bit longer 
Elvish : Mom ,remember sometimes all good things end

Hormone woes

Mom : Bud, this means you will be a tween and a teen in just a couple more years
Elvish : Yes , when I am 14 it will be more official 
Mom : Are you going to be all mean and unreasonable with me ?
Elvish : Well ,I will try not to..but I can't guarantee it.You know sometimes ...hormones just take over

Politics is no spiritual matter

Getting Elvish up from bed this morning 
Mom : I have some election news for you 
Elvish:Good news or bad Mom? 
Mom:Well Mr.Trump is our new President
Elvish : Can we move?
Dad : Now, we got to be optimistic and hopeful...
Elvish: (Walking away)Dad please don't try to spiritualize it!

Pre Beardy

Elvish: Mom ,I want to have a beard
Mom : Mmm ! I am not very fond of beards..and that stubble...kinda hard to look tidy then don't you think? 
Elvish : I will shave often enough mom.So the plan is to have the pre beard for awhile until it grows on me
Mom : What is that ?
Elvish : You know when it's disconnected but there is potential

Legacy vs Career

Mom : You are learning some of these skills so you can make a career .
Elvish : Mom you talk about the skills that give me a career , I want to create a legacy !!

Happy Secretary .oops Mommy day !

Elvish : Mom ! Is lunch packed ? I think I will take my basket ball today…I might have outdoor recess. Is my kindle in the backpack too ?

Mom : Son ,I have a question.Am I your mom or your secretary ?

Elvish : What do you mean Mom ? I love you…now you wouldn’t say that to your secretary,would you ?

I hope not !!

Boredom is good for health

Mom : Son quit complaining about bore next time . Researchers are saying it is good to be bored atleast 30
mins for your brain
Elvish : Don't worry I spend close to 8 hrs at school ! I will be a genius by the time I graduate 
Now this could mean two entirely different things depending on how you understand the conversation 

Mother's day all day

While tucking into bed at night ,
Mom :Son you forgot to wish me for Mother's day ,didn't you ?
Elvish : I did... afternoon when we were in the Sunday school class with the rest of the kids
Mom : I don't think I registered it. It was such a busy afternoon,but I waited all morning for you to wish me
Elvish : Wishing you in the afternoon counts just as much Mom! It is is Mother's day,not Mother's morning !!

Existence lessons

Mom : Did God make man or man make God ?
Tolkien : In my theory God came first and he caused Big Bang !
Elvish : what is that ?
Tolkien : It is how our solar system came into existence .
Elvish : what !! It was not the dude from Ice Age !!!

Full of yourself

Mom : How was your reading test today ?
Elvish : I did good. I think I will get something in the 90s
Mom : Before you always said you would get a 100 . Now you say 90s?
Elvish : My teacher said expecting 100 every test is unrealistic besides it is not good to be full of yourself

Big Bang Lost

Talking about the solar system over bed time , continuing the chat on Big Bang theory 
Elvish : So the planets orbit around the Sun and the Moon orbits around Earth
Mom : Yes , now what would you call the Moon if it orbitted around the Sun instead ?
Elvish : Mmmm, lost of course
